Anchorage man dies in construction fall

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An Anchorage man died Friday after a fall at a construction site.

John Greif, 63, fell about 10 feet into the basement of a home under construction, police said. He was helping his daughter and son-in-law build the house.

The 9:45 a.m. accident occurred when Greif tried to step across an open stairwell area. He fell into the basement and struck his head on the floor, police said.

Greif was taken to Providence Alaska Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
