Bulldog boys bear down on Hawks

Posted: Monday, April 26, 2004

The Nikiski boys soccer team picked up a win Friday at Houston, downing the Hawks 3-1 behind second half goals from Israel Blatchford and Nick Russell.

The game was tied going into the second half after Nikiski's Roberty Doty scored on a penalty kick and Houston converted on a corner kick.

Both the Soldotna boys and girls soccer teams held their own Friday against Palmer, but simply couldn't get the ball into the net against the Moose.

"We just couldn't finish," boys coach Jeff Siemers said. Girls coach Katie Tongue echoed Siemers' comments, saying her team matched up well against both Palmer and Colony (both SoHi teams also lost Saturday to the Knights) over the weekend, but found it difficult to get any offense going.

"They were really pretty evenly played games," Tongue said.
