HEA to cut power for maintenance

Two power circuits serving the Soldotna area will be shut off at 5 a.m. today for approximately 15 minutes. Homer Electric Association will do maintenance work on the circuits at that time.

The power outage will affect the following areas: Sterling Highway from the Kenai River bridge in Soldotna to Fred Meyer; Kobuk Street from the Sterling Highway to Redoubt Avenue; Birch Street from the the Sterling Highway to Redoubt Avenue; Redoubt Avenue from Birch Street to Binkley Street; East Redoubt Avenue and Keystone Drive, including Boundary Avenue; and Funny River Road from Spenard Builder’s Supply to Mile 5. Used book sale slated

Soldotna Public Library will hold a used book sale from 1 to 4:30 p.m. today. Books for all ages will be available. The library accepts donations of books, magazines, paperbacks and puzzles in good condition. For more information, call 262-4227.

CPGH board to meet

Central Peninsula General Hospital will hold a board of directors meeting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Iliamna Conference Room at the hospital. The meeting is open to the public. For a copy of the meeting agenda, visit www.cpgh.org.

Summer soccer starts up

The Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula is accepting registrations for the summer coed soccer program through Friday. Registration is open for children from 4 to 18 years of age. The cost is $60 for those 12 and older and $50 for those 11 and younger. Participants must be Boys and Girls Club members.

Poetry Safari set

The Kenai Community Library will host a poetry safari reading for children with Carol Ford and other readers from the Kenai Performers at 1 p.m. Sunday at the library. The event is free. For more information, call 283-4378.

Gene tracers to meet

Totem Tracers Genealogical Society will present beginners classes from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kenai Community Library. To sign up or for more information, call 262-4897. Class size is limited.
