Shaffer biography set in print

Sher Williamson’s biography of longtime Kenai Peninsula resident, artist and naturalist Boyd Shaffer is available for purchase. The book highlights Shaffer’s studies at the Sorbonne in France, employment by Walt Disney, ecotourism safaris in Africa, teaching art and biology at Kenai Peninsula College and retiring in Belize. It is published by iuniverse publishing and available through amazon.com, Boarders Books and Barnes and Noble. Williamson plans to do a book signing tour of the peninsula in June. Homer theater looking for actresses

Pier One Theatre in Homer is holding auditions for “Nunsense,” directed by Arthur Griffith with JulieAnn Smith as musical director. It is a musical comedy with much singing. There are roles for five to 10 women. Auditions will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in the chorus room at Homer High School. Writers seek conflict

The topic at the May 3 meeting of the Kenai Writers’ Group will be conflict. Anyone interested can bring their work to share with the group. The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the conference room at Kenai Community Library . Artists’ work to take off at airport

The Alaska State Council on the Arts is accepting applications for artwork for three sites at Ted Stevens International Airport. The deadline is May 23. Vendors needed for sea fest

The Kachemak Bay Sea Festival is accepting vendor applications for booth space during the Memorial Day weekend event May 26-27 in Homer. Arts and crafts vendors are among those sought. Chorus set to sing

The central Kenai Peninsula branch of the Kenai Peninsula Community Chorus has rehearsals for the December presentation of Handel’s “Messiah” from 7 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday through May at Soldotna Christ Lutheran Church.
