Scholarship available

PEO, Chapter M, will provide its annual women's scholarship this spring. Any woman having successfully completed two semesters of college and who is enrolled or planning to enroll at Kenai Peninsula College for the 2010-2011 school year is eligible to apply. The amount of the scholarship is $1500, paid at $750 per semester. Applications are now available in the Financial Aid Office at Kenai Peninsula College and must be returned by May 10. Mother's Day tea set

Mother's Day Russian tea and vintage clothing fashion show will be held May 8 from 2-4 p.m. at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. The cost will be $35 for family of four or $15 per person. Proceeds to benefit the Kenai's only National Historic Landmark, the Russian Orthodox Church Restoration Fund.

Swim lessons set

Soldotna High School Pool is taking sign- ups for summer swim lessons. Lessons will start the week of June 7 and run through the first week of August, they start at 10 a.m. and run throughout the day. For more information, call 262-7419.

Senior center plans

The Nikiski Senior Center will hold a "May Day" bingo Saturday 1. Doors open at 6 p.m. the play begins at 7 p.m. Snack bar will be available. There will be a door prize of round trip tickets Kenai-Anchorage drawn. More information, call 776-7654.

The center will serve a Mother's Day brunch at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost will be adults $13 and children ages 2-10 years old will be $1 per year. There will be homemade pies for sale. Menu will consist of bacon, sausage links, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, eggs Benedict, eggs and omelettes (cooked to order), stuffed french toast, strawberry cheese blintz, fresh fruit assortment, clam chowder and salad bar, baron of beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh sauteed vegetables, drinks included.

Greenhouse Gardening

A free class called Intro to Greenhouse Gardening is being offered by the Cooperative Extension Service through the Neighbor to Neighbor program. Tom Jahns will discuss greenhouse site selection, design, layout and planting options. The class will be held Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Kenai Peninsula College MAPTS building. Pre-registration by Tuesday is requested.

Longest drive contest begins

The North Peninsula Recreation Service Area is hosting a golf simulator longest drive competition at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center through April 30. The contest includes two attempts on Pebble Beach Hole two.

The winner receives a gift certificate for two hours of free golf on the simulator. One entry per person per day when simulator is available. For more information, call 776-8800.

Library host tile fundraiser

The Kenai Community Library has a limited number of fireplace tiles available during the construction and renovation phase of the library expansion project. Forms are available at . Small, medium, and large tiles are available with the name of the individual, business, or organization engraved. Prices range from $500 to $5,000. Proceeds from tiles sold before June 30, will be used for matching a Rasmuson challenge grant. Call Donna Peterson, at 398-4335 for more information.

Biker blessing set

Kenai Christian Church will host its annual Biker Blessing May 2 at the church. The blessing will be held after the 11 a.m. worship service. Coffee, doughnuts and a light lunch will be served. For more information, call 283-4559.
