Sexy Senior Dumpster Cleaners get busy

Posted: Tuesday, April 26, 2011

We enjoyed helping with the Earth Day Fair held Thursday, April 21, at the Cooper Landing School. This was a great opportunity to share ideas for reuse, recycle and litter prevention.

We're gearing up for our annual spring cleaning in Cooper Landing. The Sexy Senior Dumpster Cleaners have adopted four miles (41-44) of the Sterling Highway to clean spring and fall. This is the seventh year we have cleaned this section of the highway under the DOT Adopt-A-Highway Program. Chevron and ConocoPhillips each sponsor one mile. Alaska Waste, KPB Solid Waste Department and Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling (ALPAR) all play big part in clean up efforts.

ConocoPhillips purchased several new Picker Uppers for our senior volunteers this year. We also appreciate the brightly colored Litter Patrol vests they provide through the ALPAR Litter Patrol program.

I encourage everyone to get out and help pick up trash during the spring clean up efforts and please remember to slow down whenever you see volunteers working along the highway.
