ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Anchorage police shot out the tires of a suspect's car Thursday after the man reportedly dragged a detective a few feet with the vehicle.
Matthew Fox, 20, was arrested after a short pursuit, police said. Fox tried to escape custody while being treated at Alaska Regional Hospital, but was quickly caught.
Police said the incident started as they were serving a felony warrant against Fox for burglary and theft at about 10 a.m. Fox allegedly got out of the Mountain View home through a broken basement window, broke away from a detective who grabbed him and then got into the car.
The detective grabbed the car door and tried to persuade Fox to come peacefully, but he took off anyway, dragging the detective a few feet and knocking him down, police said.
At that point, another officer shot out the tires.
The detective who was dragged had only a few cuts and bruises, police said. He was not identified.
Fox needed stitches after cutting his arm while going out the broken window.
