ANCHORAGE (AP) An Anchorage man was stabbed at least a dozen times inside an apartment late Thursday and police are looking for his attacker, who may have had his finger bitten off during the fight.

A patrol officer was flagged down around 11:37 p.m. by a man who had seen Shelby Meenach, 43, bleeding on 13th Avenue. The officer found Meenach sitting on a curb with a belt tied around his right leg as a tourniquet and blood soaking his trousers, police said.

Meenach suffered at least seven wounds to his right leg, three on his back and single stab wounds to his chest and arm and behind his ear, police said.

Meenach told officers he had been attacked on the street but under questioning acknowledged he'd been in a fight with a man inside the apartment. The fight was over a woman both men were dating, police said.

Meenach told police he may have bitten one of his attacker's fingers off during the fight. Police are attempting to find the attacker.

Meenach was listed in stable condition Friday.
