Every 15 minutes during the school day on April 17, a Soldotna High School student was pulled out of class, their face was painted white and they were returned to class, going through the rest of the day representing a victim of an alcohol-related accident.
With proms and graduation fast approaching, Brittany Rogers, student body president, wanted to put together an alcohol awareness program for the school.
The "Every 15 Minutes" program was held at the school in conjunction with the Soldotna Police Department and Central Emergency Services.
Officer Tony Garcia of the SPD explained the significance of the 15 minute time frame, writing in an e-mail, "Statistically, someone is killed by a drunk driver every 15 minutes."
