D.A.R.E. program a success

Posted: Wednesday, April 27, 2011

I am proud to acknowledge the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) graduates of Nikiski North Star Elementary. Fifth graders in Mr. Floyd's, Ms. Durrant's, and Ms. Matson's class successfully completed the D.A.R.E. program. These students are pledging to stay away from drugs, alcohol and smoking, as well as making smart life decisions.

I would like to offer special thanks to the owners of The Tree House Restaurant and La Casa Italiana. These Nikiski businesses supported the children in their community by donating pizza for the graduation ceremony. I also would like to say thank you to Nikiski North Star Elementary Principal Lisa Callahan and her staff. They provided the cake, helped set-up, and most of all, allocated time for a worthwhile endeavor to guide our children away from the pitfalls of drug and alcohol abuse.

I enjoyed teaching the students about D.A.R.E. and look forward to future partnerships with Nikiski North Star Elementary staff to educate our youth. Thanks!
