The 2011 United Way Kenai Fjords Fox Island sight seeing dinner cruise and auction is May 21. The boat leaves dock at 3 p.m. and returns at 9:45 p.m. The trip includes a sight seeing tour and cruise to Fox Island for dinner and auction Tickets are $50 per person. The Alaska Girls State is a week long leadership/government session for female high school juniors to learn about city and state government and citizenship. University of Alaska Fairbanks Professor of Animal Science and Extension Livestock Specialist Milan Shipka will deliver a workshop Thursday evening at 6:30 at the Cooperative Extension Office on Kalifornsky Beach Road (below the Fish and Game offices). Shipka will talk about animal husbandry and his recent trip to Uruguay, and will answer questions.
The Kenai Peninsula clean-up is scheduled for the week of May 1-7. Participants can pick up bags for litter at the Kenai and Soldotna chambers of commerce and the Nikiski post office; Alaska Waste will pick up filled bags alongside the road during the clean up week. A free appreciation barbeque will be held in Kenai at the softball green strip near Main Street on May 7 from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m.
