Speech-language-hearing meeting begins today

The Alaska Speech, Language and Hearing Association State Convention will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday at the Kenai Merit Inn.

Speakers will be Nancy Swigert, Dr. Richard Salvi, Christine Lebold and Susan J. Norton.

March of Dimes walk planned for Saturday

The March of Dimes 30th annual WalkAmerica event will take place Saturday. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the official WalkAmerica start time is 11:30 a.m. at Big Kmart.

Car seat check up to be offered Saturday

The Kenai Peninsula Safe Kids Coalition will host a Safe Kids Car Checkup event on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Glacier Pontiac, Buick and GMC Truck.

Mall's grand opening celebration scheduled

The Peninsula Center Mall will hold a grand opening celebration Saturday with a ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. and kids' pinatas at 2:30 p.m. Food and entertainment will be available. Hourly drawings will be held with a grand prize of two round-trip tickets to Hawaii.

Peninsula Grace Brethren to host concert

Recording artist Amy Shreve, a singer and song writer from Nashville, will perform two concerts at Peninsula Grace Brethren on Sunday.

The concerts will be at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. The church is located at Mile 19.5 Kalifornsky Beach Road. The public is invited.

There is no charge for the concert. An offering will be taken. For more information, call 262-6442.

Peer-training program meeting planned

The Kenai Peninsula Teens as Teachers Youth Advocacy Group will meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bridges Community Resource Network Inc. The Teens as Teachers is a peer group that addresses tobacco use by younger students. Those interested in receiving training should plan to attend the meeting.

Garage sale to raise funds for soccer team

The Kenai Central High School soccer team will hold a garage sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 6 at Kenai Middle School. Money raised will be used to buy uniforms for the boys and girls teams.
