Brian Cote comforts Jasmine Eskilida at Nikiski Middle-Senior High School Friday afternoon as they watch rescuers from Nikiski Fire Department "save" classmates from mangled cars during a drill in the school's parking lot.

The exercise, held the day before the school's prom, was intended to "put something in kids heads as to the danger of vehicles," according to NFD engineer JT Harris.

The graphically realistic scenario left one of six students dead at the scene with others trapped in two vehicles. A LifeGuard helicopter from Anchorage participated in the drill. "Hopefully the kids come away with an awareness," Harris said.
