Kenai Historical Society will not meet this Sunday. Instead, the society meets May 7 in Hope for the Kenai Peninsula Historical Association semi-annual meeting. Bring soup or salad for a potluck. The Central Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board of Directors emergency meeting will be held on May 2 at 5:30 p.m. in the Redoubt/Spurr conference room at Central Peninsula General Hospital.

The first set of summer swim lessons at Nikiski Pool run June 7 through June 23. Sign-ups start at 10 a.m. on May 31 at the pool and include beginners, advanced beginners, intermediates, tiny tots and comp swim. The Kenai Peninsula clean-up is scheduled for the week of May 1-7. Participants can pick up bags for litter at the Kenai and Soldotna chambers of commerce and the Nikiski post office; Alaska Waste will pick up filled bags alongside the road during the clean up week. A free appreciation barbeque will be held in Kenai at the softball green strip near Main Street on May 7 from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The Kenaitze Indian Tribe offers assistance for childcare costs for Alaska Natives and American Indians who meet eligibility criteria. A public hearing on the tribe's child care development plan will be May 4 at 12:30 p.m.

The Alaska Redistricting Board will hold a hearing to take public testimony on the Draft Redistricting Plan. Maps and additional information may be obtained at the Board's website: http://www.akredistricting.org/. This hearing will be held at the Kenai City Council Chambers, located at 210 Fidalgo St., Kenai, on May 3 at 4 p.m.
The board will also take take public testimony via teleconference on May 6 at 2 p.m. The teleconference will be held at the Kenai Legislative Information Office on Main Street Loop. For more information call 283-2030.
The Soldotna Public Library kids' book group is reading "Omnivore's Dilemma: The Secrets Behind What You Eat," (Young Reader's Edition) by Michael Pollan, during April and May. Books may be picked up at the Soldotna Library. The group will read through Chapter 12 for their April 28 meeting. The meeting is from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the library.
