PETERSBURG (AP) -- The Alaska Forest Association's executive director, Jack Phelps, is moving to Washington to go to work for Alaska Sen. Frank Murkowski.
Phelps replaces Chuck Kleeschulte as Murkowski's chief of staff. Kleeschulte is moving to the Department of Energy.
Phelps has been in Alaska for 17 years, working on resources for the Legislature before taking the forest association job.
He says he'll miss working with the timber industry, despite the fact that its been under serious siege for the last few years.
The forest association hasn't named a replacement for Phelps, who leaves the job May 8.
