Area student named to dean's list

Jared J. Meyer of Nikiski has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Boise State University in Idaho. Meyer is a 1998 Nikiski Middle-Senior High School graduate majoring in criminal justice. He is the son of Steve and Diane Meyer of Nikiski. To be named to the dean's list, students must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.5.

Sterling woman wins scholarship pageant

 

Sondra Mize

Sondra Mize, 18, of Sterling was named Alaska's Miss American Starlet 2002 on April 13. She also received the Miss Photogenic award. Sondra will travel to Palm Springs, Calif., in August to compete for the national title.

She was accompanied by her older sister Morgan Mize and was sponsored by Malfunction Junction Gifts in Soldotna and Hall's Kennels in Sterling.

Soldotna youth awarded baseball scholarship

Joey Newby of Soldotna has been awarded a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Southern Colorado next fall. Newby is a 2000 Soldotna High School graduate and has been pitching at South Mountain Junior College in Phoenix, for the last two years. His parents are Jim and Tammy Newby of Soldotna.
