Model plane flyers meet

The Peninsula modelers will meet at the club flying field in Kenai (next to the fire wise disposal site) at 6 p.m. on May 3. Anyone interested in remote control flying is invited. If the weather is bad the group meets at the CAP hanger in Kenai at 7 p.m. The club meets the first Tuesday of the month. For club info go to https://sites.google.com/site/peninisulamodelers/home.

Kenai Peninsula College's Kenai River Campus closures and summer hours

KPC's Kenai River Campus will be closed May 6, 2011, for a faculty and staff end-of-academic year meeting and campus clean-up.

The Kenai River Campus will also be closed on May 12, 2011 for a staff development day. The campus will reopen May 13.

Summer campus hours begin May 3, and are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Time to pick up trash

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce has yellow Clean Up Bags available. Clean Up Week is May 1 through 7. Leave the yellow bags on the side of the road for pick up during Clean Up Week.

Youth Restoration Corps holds raffle fundraiser

Youth Restoration Corps is conducting a raffle fundraiser to support the YRC 2011 peninsula program. YRC is raffling a four-person halibut trip from Homer. Tickets are $20. Youth art show accepting submissions

Submissions are now being accepted for the Peeps Art and Photo Exhibit. The exhibit is held in conjunction with the Kenai Birding Festival May 19 to 22. Youth that are 18 years old and younger may submit their bird-focusd artwork and photography. Entry forms are available at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge headquarters on Ski Hill Road in Soldotna and online at www.kenaiwatershed.org and www.kenaibirdfest.org. Entries should be ready to display and are due May 14. They can be taken to the refuge headquarters of the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center in Kenai.

Cabin tour guides needed

The Kenai Historical Society needs volunteers to train as cabin tour hosts at the Kenai Homesteader Cabin Park for several hours each week this summer. Opening is set for May 31, with orientation for new volunteers the week before.
