DENALI PARK (AP) -- The visitors center at Denali National Park opened for the season Saturday, as did the first 30 miles of the scenic road into the park.

The road is open to private traffic as far as the Teklanika River, park officials said.

Private vehicles will be allowed until May 26, a day before shuttle bus service begins as far at the Toklat River at Mile 53.

Bill Friesen, roads and trails supervisor, said two graders and the park's steam truck crew have been working on the section of road to Teklanika.

Visitors are advised to use caution since the road is still muddy and icy in places. They also ask visitors to steer clear of any heavy equipment on the road.

Park officials said one loop of Riley Creek Campground is also open, but water won't be available there until May 22.
