SITKA (AP) -- Fifty-eight people have applied for the position of administrator and city manager at this Southeast Alaska city, replacing Gary Paxton who plans to retire Sept. 1.
About a quarter of the applicants are from Alaska.
Many of the applicants have held similar jobs in other cities around the country, Sitka Human Resources Director Mark Danielson said.
The list includes Petersburg City Manager Linda Snow, he said.
The job pays a salary ranging from $81,556 to $115,232 a year.
The Sitka Assembly plans to narrow the list to a smaller pool of applicants who will be invited to the city for interviews.
