FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A Fairbanks man was killed and his wife was injured over the weekend when their motorcycle struck the back of a car and veered out of control.

The accident occurred Saturday night when Joe Knabe, 46, and his wife, Jeri, 41, were trying to pass a car near Mile 3.5 of Chena Hot Springs Road, the Alaska State Troopers said.

Jeri Knabe suffered head injuries and abrasions when she was thrown from the motorcycle, troopers said. The helmet she was wearing came off during the crash. She was listed in satisfactory condition at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.

Joe Knabe wasn't wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

No one was injured in the other vehicle.
