Prostate cancer to be discussed

There will be a meeting for men affected by prostate cancer at 7 p.m. today in the Redoubt room at Central Peninsula Hospital. Family and friends are welcome. For information call Jim at 260-4904.

Nutrition classes begin today

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank features Nutrition classes by Colleen Sonnevil of the Cooperative Extension Service. Sonnevil will provide information on how to harvest the river, garden and outdoors to supplement your diet. Classes begin today at noon to 2:45 PM for eight weeks on Thursdays.

There is no charge for the classes.

Today a salmon filleting demonstration will be held in the Fireweed Diner at 3 p.m. Classes will be at the Food Bank at 33955 Community College Drive in Soldotna. For more information, call 262-3111.

NPRSA events planned

The North Peninsula Recreation Service Area's 2010 Flag Football registration runs through Aug. 2. The season runs from mid August to September for boys and girls in grades four through eight. For more information, call Tammy at 776-8800.

It will also host a community garage sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center Parking Lot. The cost is $5 a space to rent. Call Tammy at 776-8800 for more information.

Dinner fundraiser Saturday

The Ninilchik Health & Wellness Club will hold a fundraiser to purchase new equipment on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Dinner is a $10 donation. Live music, featuring Butch Leman, Dabarko, Ryan Bear is planned. The club is hosting an open house with giveaways, baked goods and silent auctions. Seniors plan activities

The Soldotna Senior Center's summer bazaar, quilt show, and bake sale will be held July 23 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a variety of crafts, baked good, a food menu, and quilts. For more information, call 262-2322.

Also the center's Endowment Trust Fund barbecue will be held July 24 from noon to 4 p.m. in the center's parking lot. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chili and beverages will be available.
