ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Anchorage voters elected a new Assembly and school board member in a runoff election held Tuesday.
Janice Shamberg beat Bob Bailey to claim the Assembly seat for South Anchorage. Tim Steele defeated John Floyd who was recently appointed to the school board.
The runoff was necessary because no candidate in either race won more than half the votes during the April 3rd municipal election.
In addition, residents of Bear Valley in South Anchorage voted to be included in the city's fire protection service. Homeowners in that area will now pay $182 for every $100,000 of assessed property value for the service.
