EAGLE RIVER (AP) -- A young man broke into a home and stole some clothes from a dryer in an attempt to change his appearance, police said.

The incident began Monday evening when a security guard at Carrs grocery store in Eagle River detained Robert Workman for shoplifting. During questioning, Workman said a fiend was driving his car, which turned out to be stolen.

When police questioned the friend and tried to handcuff him, John Linebaugh ran from the store, police said. The 19-year-old man led officers on a foot chase back and forth across the Glenn Highway and into a nearby neighborhood.

A woman called police after her daughter said a man broke into a neighbor's house and stole some clothes from a dryer.

Linebaugh was charged with first-degree burglary and providing false information. Workman was arrested back at the grocery store on charges of vehicle theft and shoplifting.
