Bolt graduates college

Former Soldotna resident Tasha Lynn Zsoter Bolt recently graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with a bachelor of science degree in nursing.

She is the wife of Eddie Bolt and a 2001 graduate of Soldotna High School.

Swain, Taylor join Navy

Navy Seaman Recruits Jesse A. Swain and Anthony Taylor recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

During their eight-week program, they completed classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, fire fighting, water safety and survival and shipboard and aircraft safety.

An emphasis also was placed on physical fitness. Training was concluded with "Battle Stations," an exercise used to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment.

Swain is the son of Threasa N. Thomas and stepson of Darrell A. Duncan of Sterling. He is a 2004 graduate of Skyview High School.

Taylor is the son of Emilia A. and Dennis A. Taylor of Kenai. He is a 2004 graduate of Kenai Central High School.

Martin returns from Iraq

Former Soldotna resident Spc. Brendan Martin recently returned to Fort Hood, Texas from a one-year tour of duty in Iraq. Martin was deployed with the U.S Army, First Cavalry Division (1/22 AVN RGT).

While in Iraq he worked on Apache attack helicopters just north of Baghdad at Camp Anaconda in Balad and Camp Cook in Taji.

He is the son of Cindy and Jack Martin of Soldotna and is a 2001 graduate of Skyview High School.
