Disabled Vets to hold elections

Disabled American Veterans will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion bingo hall in Kenai. The topic will be officer elections for remainder of 2007 through May 2008.

HEA planning annual meeting

Homer Electric Association’s annual meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Kenai Central High School. Members will elect three candidates to the board of directors and vote on two ballot propositions.

Candidates, by district, are incumbent Mike Nugent (Kenai, Nikiski district); incumbent Debbie Debnam and Ed Oberts (Soldotna, Sterling district); Loren Ahlers, Jenny Dewees, Brian Hirsch and incumbent Roseleen (Snooks) Moore (Kasilof, south Kachemak Bay district).

Ballot Proposition 1 would amend the bylaws of the cooperative to eliminate the nomination of director candidates from the floor at the annual meeting. Proposition 2 would allow the board to make early retirement of capital credits at a discounted rate and retain margins earned from sources other than members.

Mail-in ballots are due to Homer Electric by 5 p.m. today. Members also can vote in person at the annual meeting.

Steak dinner fundraiser planned

The Sterling Senior Citizens Center will hold a steak dinner with all the trimmings from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the center. The cost is $12.50 per person.

Adult soccer set to kick off

The Kenai Recreation Center will hold adult soccer nights from 8 to 10 p.m. Fridays beginning this week. The cost is $2 per player.

Quilters to set to sew

Stitches of Love Quilters will meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the old court house, 145 Main Street Loop in Kenai. Participants are asked to bring in projects in progress or help with tying. The group plans to catch up with finished tops and will tie as many as they have time for.
