Students shine at academic banquet

Posted: Friday, May 02, 2008

It is always nice to report the good things that kids in our community are doing and here is a great one. On April 21, Kenai Central High School held the academic banquet, which honored 135 students for academic excellence. The Academic Recognition Program allows students the opportunity to earn an academic letter for achieving a GPA of 3.5 or above for at least three consecutive semesters.

The students should be commended for their perseverance in the pursuit of academic excellence.

Jason Daniels, a 1990 KCHS graduate and current teacher at Kalifornsky Beach Elementary School, was the chosen guest speaker. His "getting through life" tips engaged the audience and will be remembered by the students as they embark on life's journey.

A thank you is in order to the Academic Recognition Committee members, Alan Fields, Loren Reese, Connie Jung, Jon Lillevik, Tim Delaney, Debbie Sounart and Brad Nyquist. A special thank you is in order for Edi Macik, who coordinated the decorations for the event.

Thank you also to Scott and Dena Cunningham of McDonald's, who have always sponsored the program financially.
