Sterling Head Start now enrolling for fall
Sterling Head Start is a free child development program that serves young children, three to five and their families. Sterling Head Start offers a.m. or p.m. classroom options, consisting of four, 3 1/2 hour classroom days (Monday - Thursday). Head Start has bus service that includes pick up in Soldotna and also serves the children breakfast, lunch, and snack. Sterling Head Start is located on the Sterling Highway at Mile 81.5 next to Cook's Tesoro. Call 260-7446 for more information.
Russian story time canceled
Due to expansion activity at the Kenai Community Library its Russian story times are canceled indefinitely.
Teens will work for donations
The Skyview High School Football team is available for spring cleaning projects on a donation basis.

Mother's Day event slated
A Mother's Day Russian Tea and vintage clothing fashion show will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. May 8 at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. The cost is $35 family of four or $15 per person.
The event is co-sponsored by the Kenai Senior Connection and the Kenai Russian Orthodox Church National Historic Landmark. For tickets, call 776-5220 or 283-4156.

Watershed fundraiser slated
On May 28 from 4 to 9 p.m. in Seward, the Kenai Watershed Forum will host a dinner cruise and tour aboard Major Marine's Kenai Star to benefit its capital building campaign.
Attendees will cruise the waters of Resurrection Bay amidst a backdrop of the Chugach and Kenai mountain ranges for an evening of wildlife, glaciers, prime rib and salmon dinner.
The fundraising event will be hosted by Major Marine Tours and the Kenai Watershed Forum. Proceeds benefit the KWF's Capital Build Campaign. There will be a silent auction on board and the bar will be open. This tour is narrated and will include entertainment.
The cost is $65 per person or $100 per person including deluxe bus transportation from Kenai/Soldotna area.

Library hosts tile fundraiser
The Kenai Community Library has a limited number of fireplace tiles available during the construction and renovation phase of the library expansion project. Forms are available at http://www.friendskenailibrary.org/SupportOpportunities.pdf . Small, medium, and large tiles are available with the name of the individual, business, or organization engraved. Prices range from $500 to $5,000. Proceeds from tiles sold before June 30, will be used for matching a Rasmuson challenge grant.

Biker blessing set
Kenai Christian Church will host its annual Biker Blessing May 2 at the church. The blessing will be held after the 11 a.m. worship service. Coffee, doughnuts and a light lunch will be served. For more information, call 283-4559.
Soap box derby is coming
The 2010 Kenai Rotary Soap Box derby speeds its way to Kenai on May 22. Local youth will compete in downhill, gravity-powered racers that they build themselves with an adult for a chance to win great prizes! Join the Kenai Rotary Club on Spruce Street in Kenai May 22 starting at noon for this year's race. The Kenai Rotary Club is looking for sponsors to help us with this exciting event.

Outdoors club to host photography exhibit
The Kenai Peninsula Outdoor Club will host a photography exhibit Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Funky Monkey in Kenai. There will be complimentary hors d'oeuvres with music by jazz guitarist J. D. Uponen. For more information, call Tracie Howard at 283-4132.
Birding festival takes flight
The Kenai Birding Festival will take place May 20-23 at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center, with workshops and field excursions designed for birders of all ages and skill levels.
Actvities include float trips of the upper Kenai River and birding from the new viewing platform in Kenai. New this year is a program just for the kids with Dan Pascucci and Leah Eskelin's enthusiastic direction.

This is a free event and all are invited to attend.
In conjunction with the Kenai Birding Festival, the 2010 Peeps Art Show & Photo Exhibit is an opportunity for children under the age of 18 to display their original art. The theme is birds and/or wildlife of the Kenai Peninsula. All children under 18 and living on the Kenai Peninsula are encouraged to enter. An Awards Reception will take place on May 20 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Blazy Mall.
