The Kenai Central High School boys soccer team defeated Houston 4-0 in Region III competition at Houston Thursday.
"We had an awful of of nice things from an awful lot of people," Kenai coach David Landry said.
Adrian Borchgrevink put the Kardinals on the board four minutes into the match, knocking home a pass from Nick Barnes.
Carlos Carreon gave Kenai a 2-0 lead on a penalty kick in the 20th minute, and Barnes made it 3-0 at the half, scoring a goal with an assist from Carreon in the 25th minute.
Barnes finished off the scoring nine minutes into the second half, assisted by Marcus Webster.
Andy Banas was able to celebrate his birthday with a half of shutout soccer in the Kenai goal, splitting goalkeeping duties with Eric Nyce.

The Kenai girls soccer team defeated Houston in Region III play in Houston.
Jamie Montgomery scored the first goal of the match for the Kardinals 19 minutes in, assisted by Laura Moore.
Erin Smith made it 2-0, assisted by Angelica Carreon in the 29th minute, and Carreon scored her first of two goals, assisted by Moore, in the 34th minute.
Karli Knudsen made it 4-0 just before the half, assisted by Carreon, and Carreon rounded out the scoring with a goal seven minutes into the second half, assisted by Moore.
Wendy Wiles earned the win in goal for the Kardinals.
