On behalf of the Fireweed Academy Charter School in Homer, we would like to thank the school board of the Kenai Peninsula Borough for its ongoing support and hosting a work session April 18 to discuss Fireweed's facility needs. We also would like to thank the staff and parents from West Homer Elementary for participating in the work session and providing valuable information and perspectives.
The success of our program has resulted in more demand than our current facilities can meet, and we are trying to acquire additional space so students are not turned away. As student populations and school enrollments continue to change, it is impossible to know which programs may be moved or end up sharing space with others.
The work session was an opportunity to practice being good neighbors, and it seemed like we all benefited from it. We have no idea what the school board will decide, but we hope everyone maintains an open mind and positive attitude.
Thanks again to all the participants in the work session.
