Longtime Soldotna resident Robert Eugene "Bob" Evans died Saturday, April 30, 2005, of natural causes at his home. He was 78.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel, 5839 Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel. Pastor Dean Nichols will officiate. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Post No. 20 and VFW Post No. 10046. A gathering will immediately follow the services at the Evans' residence.
Mr. Evans was born July 17, 1926, to William and Gladys Evans in Stanberry, Mo. He attended and graduated from Stanberry High School. He entered into the U.S. Army in 1947 and served during the Korean Conflict until he was honorably discharged in 1949.
Mr. Evans brought his family to Anchorage on April 1, 1958, and began working for Rowan Drilling Co., where he helped pioneer the Kenai oil field until 1967. He and his family moved to Soldotna in 1960, where throughout the years, his family grew, setting roots in Soldotna. Mr. Evans became self-employed and began his business of B & M Enterprises, where he performed construction and long hauling.
He was a member of the Teamsters, Local No. 959, from which he retired in 1981. Mr. Evans also was involved with Tops AK 164 and was named State King in 1997. He enjoyed Harley motorcycles and was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who rode as often as he could. He was a collector of many things.
"Bob will be missed very much by his family and friends," his family said.
Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his daughter, Marion Sue Evans in 1954; and parents, William and Gladys Evans.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Millie Evans of Soldotna; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tom Miller of Sturgeon, Mo.; son and daughter-in-law, James and Ann Evans of Hidden Lake, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Bobby Lewis of Soldotna; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Steve Jackson of Great Falls, Mont.; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Laura Evans of Soldotna; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; stepfather and stepmother, Roy and Bonnie Trotter of St. Joseph, Mo.; brother, William Evans Jr.; and sister, Doris Evans.

Alice Rubena 'Beanie' McGrady
Longtime Kenai resident Alice Rubena "Beanie" McGrady died Sunday, May 1, 2005, at her home. She was 77.
Arrangements are pending with Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
