Former peninsula resident John P. Sellung died of lung cancer Monday, April 23, 2007, at Northern Arizona Veterans Administration Health Care System in Prescott, Ariz., under Hospice care. He was 60.
Services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 11 at St. John Catholic Church in Edgar, Wis. Burial will follow at the Edgar Cemetery. The Wausau American Legion Montgomery-Plant Post No. 10 will conduct military rites. The Patriot Guard Riders will escort the family to the services.
Mr. Sellung, known as “Noble John” to his friends, was born Jan. 12 1947, in Wausau, Wis., to Adeline (Lang) and Dan Sellung Sr. He graduated from Edgar High School in 1965. He joined the Air Force in January 1966 and served two tours of duty in Vietnam working in weapons and munitions department. He attained the rank of sergeant.
After his discharge, he moved back to Wisconsin and worked at various jobs, then moved to Alaska in 1977, working in the oil fields and ran an engine rebuilding and motorcycle shop.
Mr. Sellung was preceded in death by his father; brothers, Joseph and Gerard; and sister, Lenore.
He is survived by his mother; best friend, Lynnanne Fenton of Wikieup, Wis.; son, Brian Sellung of Waukesha, Wis.; step-son, Shane Colley of Minnesota; daughter, Hilliary Howard of Waukesha; step-daughter, Sharai and her husband, Jason Bussdieker of Soldotna; step-grandchildren Karissa, Cheyann and Justin of Soldotna; grandson, CJ Howard of Waukesha; sisters, Maureen and her husband, Jim Borchardt of Edgar and Sandi and her husband, Bill Walters of Sahuarita, Ariz.; and brothers, Allen and Dan Jr. of Wausau.
Arrangements were made by Wakeline Funeral Home in Arizona.
