KETCHIKAN (AP) -- A Juneau educator has been appointed as the new director of the University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan campus.
Karen Polley named to the position Tuesday by UAS Chancellor John Pugh. He said Polley was the strongest of three candidates for the post.
Pugh said Polley's strong vocational education background would benefit the Ketchikan campus. Polley, a small-business owner in Juneau, has varied experience in education.
She was interim director of the UAS School of Career Education in 1995; education administrator with adult and vocational education for the state Department of Education from 1978 to 1987; education specialist in career and vocational education with DOE; and a teacher for Juneau Douglas Community College and the Juneau School District for nine years, according to a Tuesday UAS news release.
