FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A convicted Fairbanks sex offender is accused of attempted kidnapping.

Timoth Aills, 28, allegedly followed a 13-year-old girl Saturday, opened the passenger door of his car and told her to get in, Alaska State Troopers said.

The girl started to walk away, but Aills put his car in reverse and persisted until she finally jumped into a grass-covered ditch to hide, the report said.

Aills waited and watched for a while before eventually driving off. Downing said.

The girl ran home and told family members what happened. An aunt and uncle searched the neighborhood and saw Aills' car one block away from the girl's home.

Troopers arrested Aills at his home. Investigators said he acknowledged offering the girl a ride. Aills was also charged with failure to register as a sex offender.

According to troopers he has had two prior sex offense convictions in the past two years.
