Siren test set for noon today

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management will conduct its monthly alert siren test today at noon. The test will consist of both attack and alert tones and is conducted on the first Thursday of every month, unless it is a holiday.

Kenai historians to meet Saturday

The Kenai Peninsula Historical Association will meet on Saturday at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska building. The business meeting will begin at 10 a.m., with a free tour of the center at 11 a.m. After lunch, Mike Huhndorf will give a talk about the historical features of Old Town Kenai.

The public is invited to attend.

Young Marines to hold fund-raiser

The Alaska Young Marines of the Kenai Peninsula will hold two car washes on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. One will be next to the Carrs Quality Center in Kenai and the other will be next to Godfather's Pizza in Soldotna.

Cost is $7 per car, and all proceeds go to Young Marine activities.

Flea market organized to help cancer victim

Friends and supporters are hosting a "Spring Fling Flea Market" to raise funds for Alicia Dorcas Willard, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in February.

The "Spring Fling Flea Market" will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 13 at Kenai Peninsula College. It will include a car wash, concession stand and bake sale.

All proceeds will go to help Willard, who is expected to under go radiation treatments following the chemotherapy.

Crisis intervention training offered

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center is sponsoring crisis intervention training beginning Friday. Topics for the 45-hour class include myths and truths about domestic violence, the cycle of violence, child advocacy, instruction on working with shelter clients and more.

Four college credits are available for those who complete the course. For more information, call WRCC at 283-9479.

Spring Art Festival to be held Saturday

A showcase of area artisans and craft people will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 pm. Saturday at the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna.
