Last call for Soldotna Market vendors

The Wednesday Soldotna Creek Market is gearing up for summer. The market will run for 11 consecutive Wednesdays, June 1 through Aug. 10. Vendor spaces will cost from $15-$30 per Wednesday. Vendor spaces must be reserved in advance. Call Rae at 262-2729 for more information and to reserve a space.

Hospice of Homer plans golf fundraiser

The Holes "Fore" Hospice second annual golf tournament to benefit Hospice of Homer is planned for May 14 at Fireweed Meadows Golf Course in Anchor Point. A clostest to the pin competition will be held at 10 a.m. with the 18-hole scramble tournament to start at 11 a.m. An entry fee of $50 includes 18 holes, lunch and range balls. Sport Rec and Trade Show this weekend

The Sport Rec and Trade Show is this weekend. Hours are Friday, 3 -- 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. -- 7 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. -- 5 p.m. The Safari Club presents Guns for the Hunter on Saturday, May 7, at 6 p.m. Thirty guns to raffle at $10 per ticket, $20 admission includes pizza and soft drink. Free barbecue supports Hospice, Habitat for Humanity

Come have free barbecue Thursday, May 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Residential Mortgage in Soldotna, and buy your annual Hospice & Habitat for Humanity Raffle Fund-Raiser tickets, sponsored by the Kenai Peninsula Association of Realtors. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Grand prize is a 2011 Outlander 400 4 Wheeler ATV, first prize is a Tikka 300 Winchester Magnum Rifle, second prize is "The Waterfall," by Ed Tussey, a framed print, and third prize is a beautiful basket from Homer Bear Creek Winery. Host a foreign exchange student

The Kenai Peninsula College is recruiting people to host college-age foreign exchange students for the 2011-12 school year. Hosting can be for the academic year, a semester, as a short term back-up or a day host. A small stipend to defray expenses is included. Become "Etched in Stone" with Challenger

The Challenger Center of Alaska in Kenai has launched a new tile drive and invites donors to show support for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education in Alaska. These new tiles will be predominantly displayed in the Earth Lobby, on the Space Shuttle Wall. Challenger strives to inspire kids in science, technology, engineering and math by engaging students in hands-on, relevant programs. Names of military personnel sought

Third Annual Alaska Solar Tour

The annual Central Peninsula solar tour of renewable energy and green building sites will be Saturday, May 14 starting at 10 am at Gary's Auto Electric on K-Beach Road. The tour includes a natural foods lunch, snacks, on-board presentations, transportation to the sites and entertainment.
