FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A convicted Fairbanks sex offender is charged with attempted kidnapping after an incident Saturday involving a young girl.
Timothy Aills, 28, followed a 13-year-old girl, opened the passenger door of his car and told her to get in, Alaska State Troopers said.
The girl started to walk away, but Aills put his car in reverse and persisted until she finally jumped into a grass-covered ditch to hide, the report said.
Aills waited and watched for a while before eventually driving off, said Craig Downing, the girl's uncle.
The girl ran home and told family members what happened. Downing said his wife saw Aills' car a block away from the home.
Troopers arrested Aills at his residence. Investigators say he acknowledged offering the girl a ride.
Aills also was charged with failure to register as a sex offender. He was originally convicted of sex assault on a minor, according to the state's sex offender Internet site.
