ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Birch Creek at the Steese Highway Bridge overran its banks forcing the National Weather Service to issue a flood warning, forecasters said Friday.
Flooding between Circle and Central northeast of Fairbanks was caused by an ice jam and snowmelt that caused the creek to rise and spill onto the road.
The road has been impassible since around 5 p.m. Thursday and likely will remain that way for several days. Forecasters say the flood warning will remain in effect until 5 p.m. Sunday.
