ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A 32-year-old Alaska man suspected of helping his wife commit suicide has been arrested in Sandusky, Ohio.

Alaska State Troopers said Rex Davenport handed his wife a loaded gun after she threatened to kill herself Sept. 15 at their Talkeetna home. Irene Davenport then shot herself with the gun.

The two had been drinking and arguing at the time of the shooting, troopers said.

Davenport originally was charged with murder but those charges were later dropped. He faces charges of weapons misconduct for being a felon in possession of a handgun, for handling a gun while intoxicated and for giving a gun to a person who was intoxicated.

Davenport fled the state and troopers got a tip that he was living in Ohio, where he was arrested Sunday by authorities there. He is being held at the Erie County Jail in Ohio, pending an extradition hearing.
