ANCHORAGE (AP) The Coast Guard searched unsuccessfully for a man who fell overboard near Valdez.

Two men and a dog were aboard a 21-foot pleasure boat in Columbia Bay when the man and dog fell overboard. The man remaining on the boat called the Coast Guard for help at 10:42 a.m. Saturday.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Cordova and a boat crew from Valdez searched for the missing man for several hours. Alaska State Troopers aboard their vessel and three private boats also searched.

The dog was recovered, but there were no sightings of the man. He was not wearing a life jacket when he fell into the 33-degree water.

The Coast Guard was withholding the man's name until next of kin can be notified.
