"Mom was a gentle, supportive mother and grandmother. She was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and toy poodle, Narla. Mom thrived when the grandchildren were around her. She was so special that everyone who came around eventually called her 'mom.' Mom was a gentle, sweet person who always had a smile for everyone. Her family and friends will miss her terribly," her family said.
They also said she was well liked by her fellow employees.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her son, Robert F. Smith Jr. in 1998.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Robert Smith of Nikiski; daughter, Karen Barngrover of Kenai; sons, Calvin Barngrover of Nikiski, Jewel Bradford of Funny River, Joel Bradford of Wenatchee, Wash., and Rick Smith of Port Angeles, Wash.; and 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
