Article on jazz concert failed to recognize key team member

Recently, the Clarion did a wonderful cover story on the Nikiski North Star sixth grade musical, "We Haz Jazz." The school was thrilled with the publicity because the kids had worked so hard to create such a delightful performance. The reporter, Layton Ehmke, asked interesting questions and responded enthusiastically to the responses.

However, he happened to call just before show time and was only able to talk to two of the teachers involved. Annie Kendall, the third teacher on our team, was characteristically busy with pre-showtime activities and missed the interview. Unfortunately, her name was left out of the article.

Annie Kendall, Kris Barnes and I have worked collaboratively on this project for many months. Kris and I feel bad that Annie's name was not included, so we hope this letter clarifies the fact that we were a team of three.

Those who have been involved with the "We Haz Jazz" production and with any of our collaborative efforts already know that Annie Kendall is one-third of our team!

Also, although the article emphasized the bonding of the students from the two former schools — North Star and Nikiski — it did erroneously make a reference at one point to North Star as the current school. The name of our school — Nikiski North Star — truly reflects our new identity. The students and the staff celebrate our consolidation! We are bigger, stronger and jazzier!
