Area chambers set schedules

Chambers of commerce speakers for the upcoming week include:

Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Dale Bagley will speak at the Nikiski Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon today at North Kenai Baptist Church. For more information, call Judene Van Cleave at 776-5551.

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon Tuesday at the Riverside House. John Shively, vice president of Holland America Line, will speak. For more information, call Shanon Hamrick at 262-9814.

State, federal work site posters available

Information posters required by state and federal regulations to be displayed at work sites are available free of charge from the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Four state and seven federal employment-related posters are available.

Visit the department's Web site at posters.htm to order complimentary state posters and find links to order federal posters.

The posters also may be purchased from commercial sources.

Nominations of older workers sought

The Alaska Commission on Aging is seeking nominations for the Experience Works Prime Time Awards Program, which honors outstanding older workers from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

Businesses and individuals may nominate Alaska residents age 65 or older who currently are employed and working at least 20 hours each week. The honoree must be willing to travel to Washington, D.C., from Oct. 5 to 9 for award events.

Individuals who take part in a subsidized employment program funded by the local, state or national government are not eligible.

The deadline for nominations is May 21.

Exposition offers free business workshops

The fifth annual Kenai Peninsula Small Business Expo offers free workshops from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kenai Peninsula College May 15. The workshops will cover topics from how to start a business on a shoestring budget to effective ways to relieve stress.

Lunch will be provided. Participants who preregister by noon Monday will be eligible for a door-prize drawing.

The exposition is sponsored by Kenai Peninsula Small Business Development Center, the Kenai Peninsula Small Business Development Division, and Kenai Peninsula College.
