Vocal ensemble to tour area
During its tour of Alaska this month, the Concordia University Christi Crux vocal ensemble will perform at two Kenai Peninsula Lutheran churches Saturday and Sunday.
Performances will be at Star of the North Lutheran Church, 216 N. Forest Drive in Kenai at 7 p.m. Saturday and at Faith Lutheran Church in Homer at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
There is no charge for admission; a freewill offering will be taken to offset the costs of the tour.
The tour, entitled "A Legacy of Faith," reflects the university's theme for the school's 100th anniversary. The presentation will include traditional, classical compositions written or arranged by William Billings, Anton Bruckner, Hugo Distler, Maurice Durufle, Howard Helvey, Stanley Hoffman, Moses Hogan, John Leavitt, Henry Mollicone, Thomas Morley, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Dave Riley, Bruce Saylor, Robert Scholz and Thomas Tallis.

Singapore minister to speak
Peninsula Christian Center will host Joe Purcell Sunday through Tuesday at 6:30 each evening.
Purcell currently ministers in Singapore and has an Apostolic missions ministry to Siberia, China, Nepal and Singapore. Purcell left his law practice in Wasilla in 1990 to pursue missions work in Siberia.

Matrix plans Mother's Day service
Matrix will have its Mother's Day service at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
This month's features are an "American Idle" competition, drama from "The Edge" and Cambodia missionary Larissa Wright.
Matrix meets at Peninsula Christian Center behind The Salvation Army store in Soldotna.
Days of Purpose campaign continues
North Star United Methodist Church in Nikiski continues with the 40 Days of Purpose campaign. The program is a worldwide effort involving an estimated 13,000 churches from 60 denominations. The center of the campaign is a book called "The Purpose Driven Life," by Rick Warren, senior pastor at one of the country's largest churches, Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif.
During its campaign, the church presents God's five purposes for people to worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry and evangelism through weekly messages by the pastor, a personal or family daily devotional reading, a weekly Scripture verse that is memorized, a weekly small group lesson and a daily e-mail of encouragement.

Drama troupe seeking members
Kyds Tyme, a Christian musical drama troupe, is seeking new members. Children ages 6 and older are eligible to join. There is no cost.

AWANA student lauded
Lynsey Mese of Kenai has earned an AWANA Citation Award for completing 12 AWANA books from third through 12th grades, memorizing more than 540 Bible verses and reading the entire Bible through at least one time.
By receiving the award, Mese becomes eligible to earn a scholarship from one of seven U.S. colleges.
Mese, the first student from First Baptist Church of Kenai to earn the award, has been active in the AWANA program since she was 7.
Clothes 2 Go is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays in the basement of the Nikiski Inlet Faith Church. Items cost 25 cents and up.
