Soldotna resident Hazel H. Pond died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at Harbor Lights Assisted Living near Soldotna. She was 93.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the Sterling Senior Center in Sterling. Pastors Jon Walters and Richard Whetsell will officiate. Her ashes will be buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Elizabethtown, N.Y.
Mrs. Pond was born Sept. 18, 1913, in Oxford, N.Y., to Frank L. and Bertha M. (Gilbert) Hovey. After graduating from high school, she attended Keuka College in Penn Yan, N.Y. and received a bachelor’s degree. She worked as a secretary for many years and retired in 1957. She moved to Alaska in August 2001. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed being a homemaker, knitting, sewing and cooking.
She also excelled at being a scout leader and was a Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Pond was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and husband, Walter Pond, who died in 1994.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Karen C. Pond of Sterling; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be sent to Keuka Fund, c/o Keuka College, P.O. Box 98, Keuka Park, NY 14478.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
