Communities host areawide clean-ups

* Spring Clean Up Week continues through Saturday for the Kenai and Soldotna areas.

Trash bags are available at the Soldotna and Kenai chambers of commerce Mondays through Fridays and at the Soldotna Safeway store from 1 to 4 p.m. through Friday.

* The annual Nikiski clean-up will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 16. Registration will be held at the Nikiski Recreation Center. Food and prizes will begin at 3:30 p.m.

Day of prayer slated

The National Day of Prayer will be observed at the following places Thursday: at the flag pole at noon at the Kenai Legislative Affairs Building at 145 Main Street and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Church of God Soldotna at 105 Redoubt Ave.

Women voters to meet

The League of Women Voters' will meet at noon Friday at the Soldotna Lutheran Church.

The featured speaker will be Dick Hahn, former nuclear engineer for the U.S. Department of Energy. His topic will be issues connected to nuclear energy.

Historical society meets

The Soldotna Historical Society will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday in the main building on Centennial Park Road. It is open to the public.

The group will hold a spring cleanup with lunch to follow. Volunteers are needed to help. For more information, call 262-4157.
