Recycle those old electronic items

The spring electronics recycle event is May 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Central Peninsula Landfill, Mile 98.5 Sterling Highway. Household fees are $15 per vehicle, limit 2 monitors, additional monitors at $15 each; TV 18-inch or less, $15, greater than 18-inch, $25 each. Business fees are 35 cents/pound, must schedule an appointment. Non-Profits fees are 25 cents/pound with proof of 501(c)3 status, by appointment only. All computers and electronics accepted except audio and video tapes, smoke detectors and vacuums. To make an appointment, ask questions, or volunteer for the event, call Jan at 262-5098.

CERT training offered this month

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training will be offered May 9, 12, 13, 16, 19, 20, 23, 24, 26 and 27, at the Soldotna Emergency Response Center. All ages (teens to seniors) are welcome and participation is ability-oriented to the level that is comfortable and safe for each person. Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to be outside for portions of the class. There is no cost for the class, but pre-register with Glenda at 907-262-2098, or by Manuals are available in advance of the class at the Emergency Response Center, 253 Wilson Lane, Soldotna.

May meeting scheduled for kids' book group

The Soldotna Public Library Kids' Book Group will be finishing "Omnivore's Dilemma: The Secrets Behind What You Eat," (Young Reader's Edition), by Michael Pollan for their May meeting. Books can be picked up at the Soldotna Public Library. The group will read from Chapter 12 to the end of the book for the May 26 meeting, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the hospital. The group is open to kids in 4th through 8th grade. This is the group's last meeting for the school year. For more information, or to become a program sponsor, call Rosie Reeder, 262-7993.

Sled dog mushers meet

The Peninsula Sled Dog and Racing Association meets May 11 at 6 p.m., at the Kenai River Center. The agenda is to discuss a grant, and plan for next season. For more information call Mindee Morning at 283-3954.

Triviapalooza 2011 on tap

Join the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center and Triumvirate Theatre for our the annual trivia competition, Triviapalooza! The competition is May 13, 7 p.m., at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. Tickets are $15 a person. To register a team, sign up or for more information, call 283-1991 or email Kassik's beer and pizza will be available at the event, and the first prize is $250. Teams should be 6-8 people and organization or business teams are welcome.

Kenai Historical Society meets in Hope

Kenai Historical Society meets May 7 in Hope for the Kenai Peninsula Historical Association semi-annual meeting. Bring soup or salad for a potluck. Hope Sunrise will provide meat cuts. KHS bus transportation will be available by calling Bill Nelson at 283-5194.

Pitch Hit Run baseball this weekend

Nikiski Community Recreation Center is hosting a Pitch Hit Run skills competition and barbecue for 7- to 14-year-old boys and girls on May 7 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the rec. center field. Register at the Nikiski Community Rec. Center. For more information call 776-8800.

Youth hold garage sale fundraiser
