Anchorage police suspend search for missing woman

Posted: Wednesday, May 07, 2003

ANCHORAGE (AP) An official search has been suspended for a 21-year-old Anchorage woman who disappeared over the weekend.

The search by police and relatives turned up no sign of Bethany Correira. Relatives reported her missing Sunday and planned to continue their own search Tuesday.

Police said they want to talk with anyone who may know more about Corriera's situation.

Correira moved from Talkeetna last week to take summer classes at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She had been living in a Downtown Anchorage apartment.

Relatives said Correira never showed up to meet with them when she was supposed to.

Police initially said the case appeared more suspicious than most because a vacant building next door to Correira's burned early Sunday morning. Police later said the fire appears to be unrelated to her disappearance.
