U.S. Supreme Court justice to take part in Fairbanks convention

FAIRBANKS (AP) U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia is scheduled to visit Fairbanks this week to take part in a three-day convention of the Alaska Bar Association.

The event begins Wednesday and wraps up Friday.

Scalia, who was appointed in 1986 by then-President Ronald Reagan, is scheduled to deliver a speech at a bar convention awards banquet Thursday evening at Fort Wainwright.

On Friday, he is scheduled to participate in a panel discussion on state and federal appellate courts. Others on the panel are 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Andrew Kleinfeld, Alaska Supreme Court Justice Robert Eastaugh and Alaska Court of Appeals Chief Judge Robert Coats.
