The sixth-grade classes will participate in a field trip to Peterson Bay next week. Mrs. Carter's class and half of Ms. DuFloth's class will go Tuesday and May 14, while Mrs. Murphy's class and the other half of Ms. DuFloth's class will go May 14 and 15. This trip will enhance all of the marine life studies the students have been working on.
Soldotna Middle School will host an orientation for parents of sixth-graders at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Mrs. Furlong's fifth-grade class will go on a field trip to Whittier and Prince William Sound on Friday. Parents are reminded to pick up their children by 5:30 p.m. at the school.
Field day is coming up. Primary grades will participate May 20, and intermediate grades will participate May 21. To volunteer, call Mrs. Bagley at 262-1463.
Yearbooks still are available. Get orders in as soon as possible.
First-graders continue practicing counting coins. Parents are encouraged to help children practice this skill at home and at the store. The students also learned about polygons, how to add three digits together, learned subtraction and how to count quarters.
There will be no centers on Friday, as the Keep Trying unit continues.
Dr. McCord, an area orthopedic surgeon, will sponsor a bike rodeo at the school from 12:30 to 2:25 p.m. Friday. Helmets will be available for $5. Helmets are mandatory for participation in the rodeo. Also, bikes must be in working order. Mechanics will be on site for a bike safety check. At that time, minor adjustments may be made, but major maintenance must be taken care of by parents or other bike specialists prior to the rodeo. Obstacle courses will be set up according to skill and age. Certificates will be given to those who pass the bike safety course. Parents are encouraged to join their child during this time. Volunteers also are needed to help with the event. Contact Mim Updike if you are available to help.
