Agrium schedules fire training in May

Agrium Kenai Nitrogen Operations will conduct "live fire" training this month for its employees. During the training, there occasionally may be smoke or open flames visible from the highway near the plant at Mile 21 of the Kenai Spur Highway.

Training is scheduled for 7:45 a.m. each Thursday in May and at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

KPC plans one-day shut down

The Kenai Peninsula College Kenai River Campus will close at 9:30 a.m. today for a faculty and staff end-of-the-year meeting. The college apologizes for any inconvenience the closure causes the public. For more information, call Suzie Kendrick at 262-0320.

La Leche League to meet

Hospice to hold widows' support group

Transitions, a support group for widows, will meet at 7 p.m. today at Hospice of the Central Peninsula office in Soldotna. For more information, call Sue at 262-0453.

Postal service to hold food drive

The Soldotna and Kenai United States postal carriers will participate in the National Association of Letters Carriers 12th annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive Saturday.

The letter carriers will collect nonperishable food donations left at mailboxes along their routes. Donated food will benefit the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. For more information, call 262-3111.

Pottery guild to hold fund-raiser

The Kenai Pottery Guild will hold its annual Mother's Day pottery sale fund-raiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the guild. Proceeds will help to maintain the potters' studio and produce the clay exhibit. For more information, call Cindy at 262-0903 or 262-3898.

Museum cleanup scheduled

The Soldotna Historical Museum will hold its annual spring cleanup at 11 a.m. Saturday at the museum. All members and the public are encouraged to attend. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Nikiski community cleanup set

The Nikiski Community Council is holding its annual cleanup day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Registration for individual and team prizes, bag pickup and area assignments begin at 9 a.m. at the North Peninsula Recreation Area hockey rink. Army band to perform

The U.S. Army Field Band will hold a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium at Kenai Central High School.

Free tickets can be obtained at the school.

Mother's Day breakfast set

Boy Scout Troops No. 659 and 672 will hold the 36th annual Mother's Day breakfast from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kenai Elks Lodge. Proceeds will help cover cost of scouts' summer camp fees. The cost is $5 per person or $25 per family. For more information, call Carol Strickland at 283-2833.

Police officers memorial service planned

Soldotna Police Chief John Lucking Jr. has issued an open invitation to the public to attend the Police Officers Memorial Service at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Soldotna Police Department.

Taste of Kenai needs vendors

The Kenai Peninsula Borough, in conjunction with Kenai Wild and the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce, will host The Taste of Kenai, a food and beverage show, May 15 and 16 at the Soldotna Sports Center.
